In the footsteps of King Ludwig II. – the fairy-tale castles around Füssen

Majestic cultural history near our hotel

Neuschwanstein Castle, Hohenschwangau Castle, and the Museum of Bavarian Kings.
The region around Füssen is inseparably linked with the name King Ludwig II. of Bavaria. His famous buildings attract millions of visitors from all over the world to the so-called King's Corner – and for good reason: Here, fairy tales come to life.

From the Best Western Plus Hotel Füssen, you can easily reach the castles – the legendary Neuschwanstein Castle is only 4 kilometers away. Hohenschwangau Castle and the Museum of Bavarian Kings are also in the immediate vicinity.

Neuschwanstein Castle – the fairy-tale castle

Built starting in 1869, King Ludwig II. had Neuschwanstein Castle designed as a romanticized, idealized knight's castle. Located high on a rock, it looks like something out of a dream – and was rightly used as the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. With its lavish halls, the iconic throne room, and spectacular views of the Allgäu Alps, it is one of the most famous landmarks in the world.

Hohenschwangau Castle – King Ludwig's childhood home

Opposite Neuschwanstein stands the yellow-painted Hohenschwangau Castle, where Ludwig II spent his childhood. It was rebuilt by his father, Maximilian II, and houses many memories of courtly life in the 19th century. A visit is especially worthwhile in combination with a guided tour of Neuschwanstein.

Museum of the Bavarian Kings

Located directly on Lake Alpsee, the museum offers fascinating insights into the history of the Wittelsbach dynasty, the life of King Ludwig II, and his visions. Multimedia exhibitions, original exhibits, and the view of the castles make the museum a truly immersive experience.
